Welcome to the first newsletter from Forager’s Nest Art Space

(FINALLY!) a balmy, Brisbane spring day on Saturday 17th September and lots of lovely people joined in the celebration, where, once again, we featured some of our represented artists and their creative work.

Firstly, one of our Workshop Co-ordinators and visual artists, Leanne Carkeet joined by two of her students, Chris McGinty and Debbie Dawson collaborated in a magnificent collection of visual vibrance.

Leanne is a visual artist and qualified art teacher who thrives on experimentation and often incorporates collage in her work. Her unique artworks play with abstraction and explore her delight in her local community.

Each Friday morning Leanne conducts an open studio session for adults with some experience in painting, needing encouragement to complete a project. Chris and Debbie’s beautiful works were completed during these sessions. New participants interested in attending are always welcome and can book through our pages on Eventbrite.

Also featured on the day, was Martha Zettler, who has learnt her art in Germany and Sth Africa before arriving in Australia. Her current ceramics are delicate and whimsical, using bubble glazes and transfers to evoke these varied mythologies.

Thirdly, we proudly present our newest staff member wearing her other hat. Natalie Billing is also a local artist obsessed with memory and recording place through Eco Dyeing. After walking a place and gathering windfall leaves, she binds them up with natural textiles and applies heat and pressure to create wearable prints. No inks or chemicals, just plant dyes and memories!

Just a taster of the local artists represented here at Forager’s Nest Art Space. Our Queen B, Bettina has been championing local artists through local events such as Catwalk Botanique and Bazaar as well as Horti-Couture for many years. Forager’s Nest is her first Bricks and Mortar venture as she continues to advocate for local makers in art and design, while inspiring those keen to venture into creative pursuits through the available workshops.

Other than Leanne’s painting workshops, Forager’s Nest offers “Mark Making” with Christine Butler, “Pintmaking” with Megan Grinstead and Giovanna Scott, and “Weaving” with Bettina herself.

This month’s workshops are:

Saturday 15th October, 1-4pm
Saturday 22nd October, 1-4pm
every Wednesday evening 6.30-8.30pm
…. and so much more still being hatched!

All can be booked through Eventbrite. Why not follow Forager’s Nest Art Space while you’re there so you don’t miss out on the next inspiring workshop.

Our next event will be our first birthday in November! Watch this space for details!
